Our priorities

At some point in an organisation’s timeline, those involved in building the company will come to realise that they are in a very fortunate position. In that, they recognise that they are able to have some impact, small or large, on the state of the world and the people in it – whether that’s due to manpower, brand influence or disposable income.

It is often seen as a moral obligation then, to give back to the community, at the very least to reverse any negative impacts caused by their day-to-day processes.

For us, it’s a privilege to go above and beyond what is expected of us. It’s core to who we are as a business – it’s about making a difference beyond beds.

Our pledges

When we first set out on our mission, we knew that we wanted to have a positive impact on our residents and their futures, the wider community and hopefully, the planet as a whole.

But with a world of inspiration and nothing holding us back, we needed a way to bring method to the madness. That’s how we defined the six pledges that – we believe – form a responsible business within our sector and we hold ourselves accountable to delivering on these in any way we can.

Environment
Consider the environmental impact of all our construction and operational activities, and use natural resources sustainably.

Ethics and Governance
Be a value-driven organisation when carrying out all our daily operations and delivering our wider projects.

Community
Invest in the communities where we build and operate our villages, in a way that supports equal opportunity and economic growth.

Workplace

To create a high-performing workplace culture that our teams can be proud of, built around our values.

Partners

Affect lasting positive change by creating and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships, between our university partners, our residents and ourselves.

Villages

Provide opportunities for our residents to become responsible citizens, by encouraging them to reduce their impact on the environment and contribute to the communities around them.

Our people

Our people drive our practices, our policies and our actions – this is what differentiates us as an organisation.

In our minds, stakeholders aren’t just those who have a monetary stake in our business. We value the thoughts, feelings and goals of our staff and students, and we work to ensure that we have a shared vision, which we can bring to life as a team.

We couldn’t be prouder of our Community Spirit programme, through which we offer our team members the option to volunteer for a charity of their choice, for two days per year, outside of their annual leave.

Our talented staff have skills that others can benefit from, and since being involved in charitable work has been proven to improve mental wellbeing, we are more than happy to help them “live our values” either single-handedly or as a team!

Our charity partners

Since 2003, we have partnered with over 40 different charities, and it has become a very important part of who we are and what we do.

Our sustainability

We’re always looking for new ways to reduce our environmental footprint, both in our villages and in our offices.

Working in our communities

Investing in our communities has always been important to us, whether we can support local universities with fundraising events or help to highlight the talents of their students with sponsored talks or performances.
