Food hacks every student needs to know

Posted at 19 September 2017 in Food & Drink

Easy food to make and with minimal washing up? Yes, you heard that right!

1. Make scrambled eggs in a mug

Crack two eggs in a mug, add a splash of milk and a dab of butter. Salt and pepper for seasoning, add to the microwave for 1-2 minutes and there you have it, an easy on the go breakfast before your morning lecture and with only one single thing to wash up.

2. Yogurt lollies

Pop a stick in the middle of your yogurt and put them in the freezer overnight, then remove the pot and there you go, your own ice lollies!

3. Use an empty mayonnaise or tomato ketchup bottle as a pancake mix holder

It makes the batter last longer so you don’t have to use it all in one go, it saves space in the fridge and it’s easier to pour in the pan and makes less mess!

4. Mac and cheese in a mug is a must!

Grab a large mug, fill it with water and pasta, stick it in the microwave for 3 and a half minutes until the pasta is fully cooked, pour away the rest of the water, add milk and cheese then give it a final 60 seconds in the microwave. Easy mac n cheese in under 5 minutes.

5. Cookies in one minute? Say no more!

All you have to do is add light brown sugar, melted butter, milk and then stir. Add the last few ingredients flour and of course chocolate chips. Then microwave for 30 seconds, 20 seconds and then a final 10.

6. Pepper rings (you can either do this with an egg in the middle or rice)

Simply cut out the middle of the pepper, add the egg or rice then cook in the oven until it is ready to eat.

7. Left over pizza from last night? Don’t let pizza go to waste!

Add a glass of water in the microwave - the pizza will soak in the water and will be as fresh as the night before.
