Hey Leeds Students! Here Are 6 Amazing Things to Do This Weekend

Posted at 29 March 2022 in Travel & Culture, Food & Drink

Whether you study at Leeds Beckett or the University of Leeds, those long weeks of classes can leave you with the need to go out and experience the best of student life in Leeds

So, need some inspiration on how to spend your weekend in Leeds? Here are some great ideas that not only will guarantee a good time with new friends, but they’ll help you get to know your student home a little better too.

For a thrilling day out, try Escape Hunt escape rooms

Whether you are an escape room expert or can barely escape from your bed sheets in student halls; escape rooms are an immersive, gaming experience involving puzzle solving, hidden clues and teamwork. Escape Hunt is situated in The Light in the heart of Leeds' city centre with its own bar to celebrate your escape success after!

The rooms feature themes of World War II, Dr Who, Ancient Japan and more, each fully immersive with characters you embody. With prices starting at £20 per person, we couldn’t think of a better activity for making friends from University in the new city you now call home.

Hit a bull’s eye at Flight Club dart’s bar

Nothing beats a British pub classic to get a good weekend started and Flight Club dart’s bar aims to bring back the glory of game rooms to Leeds students. Rent out your own dartboard and throw doubles, perhaps whilst you drink doubles too as there are great dining options to enjoy during your darts game.

They even run a brunch social that includes Prosecco and bottomless pizza, we’ll be booking a booth ASAP!

Check out this cool student-centric hang out just across from Leeds Art’s Gallery in Leeds city centre.

Feel the movie magic at Hyde Park Picture House

Known as a local landmark in Leeds, this gas-lit cinema is the last one still in use in the UK, only a short trip on the bus out from Leeds city centre.

Hyde Park Picture House is an independent cinema in Leeds’ Hyde Park neighbourhood featuring historic interiors that will take you back to the magic of old Hollywood; it’s a must-see for any students and film fans.

They may transport you to the past, but their movies are the latest blockbusters; from indie art films, to box office hits.

It may not be as fast-paced as some places in the city centre, but this cinema is still beloved by students and it’s only a short walk from the University of Leeds so book your ticket for a cinema experience like no other.

Take a trip to Japan in the heart of Leeds with House of Fu

A new restaurant to Leeds city centre and a trendy place to hang out with other new students whilst you chow down on authentic Japanese dishes: ramen, dumplings, rice bowls and more, including the popular gyoza of the week!

The vibe may feel like a fast-food diner, but the standard is anything but that. Each dish is expertly prepared by Japanese chefs with plenty of vegan and plant-based options available too.

House Of Fu is right in the city centre and there are buses you can catch if you are in our Burley Road student accommodation too. Start sampling the best places to eat in Leeds with this cool new Japanese restaurant.

For art-lovers of Leeds, visit The Gallery at 164

Sometimes, a great day out is exploring cool art galleries and finishing with a good coffee. Luckily, there are plenty of places to enjoy across Leeds but the Gallery At 164 is extremely popular for students.

Just down the road from Leeds Playhouse, Gallery At 164 is a free exhibition space to explore that aims to support local and upcoming artists in Leeds. It features all kinds of art like photography, illustrations, sculpture and even comic book art with new exhibitions arriving all the time that will keep you coming back.

Where you have saved on a ticket to enter the gallery, you can spend at their stylish, retro-inspired cafe; with freshly prepared baked goods, focaccia sandwiches and of course all the coffee any student could need, it’s a must-see on a Saturday!

Explore the stores in Thorntons Arcade

Leeds is the city filled with the coolest places to spend your new student discount card. In fact, Leeds is known for its wide variety of shopping arcades, whether they be filled with luxury stores, or local stalls.

One particular favourite for students in Leeds is the Corn Exchange, this hidden gem is home to some amazing independent stores! We recommend the Alt Box to find rare and unusual vintage fashion as well as The Plant Point for students wanting to decorate their accommodation with cacti and plants galore!

You can find this arcade at the top of Leeds Briggate, surrounded by shopping favourites like Zara, Size? and Harvey Nichols.

It’s safe to say, Leeds is a city built for students and Campus Living Villages is great student accommodation, so you can focus on the fun stuff!

Check out the Leeds student accommodation we offer and we look forward to welcoming you to this vibrant student-centric city!
